The door apparently responsible for a cabin depressurisation on a Singapore Airlines Airbus A380 aircraft will be removed for examination by SIA and manufacturer specialists.
Upon the fitting of a new door the aircraft will return to Singapore and eventually re-enter service, says a company spokesman in an email to Flightglobal. The aircraft, bearing registration 9V-SKE, remains in Baku, Azerbaijan, where it was forced to divert during the 6 January incident.
The spokesman confirms that the door in question is the third one on the left side of the aircraft’s main deck.
Passengers quoted in Singapore media are reported as saying that the door began generating noise soon after flight SQ317 took off from London Heathrow bound for Singapore. The depressurisation caused the aircraft’s oxygen masks to be deployed.
There were 467 passengers and 27 crew aboard the aircraft, none of whom were injured. As a result of the diversion to Baku, SIA has said it will refund the passengers their airfares.
The Rolls-Royce Trent 900 powered aircraft was delivered to SIA in June 2008, according to Flightglobal’s Ascend Online database. Following a sale and leaseback transaction on the delivery date, 9V-SKE is owned by DS-Fonds and is managed by Doric.
