American Airlines says it will be flying at least 20 new seasonal routes starting in the summer of 2020, including to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket, as well as additional connections from two secondary US cities to its Latin American Gateway hub, Miami.

The Fort-Worth-based airline says on 21 November that its domestic network will include new connections between Philadelphia and Charlotte to the islands, just off the Massachusetts coast, which are popular summer vacation spots for residents of the Northeast United States. The flights will be operated on an Embraer 175.
Passengers in Jackson, Mississippi and Des Moines, Iowa will be able to get to Miami directly, with flights that will complement one-stop connections to vacation destinations in the Caribbean, American says.
In August, the airline had already announced that it would introduce nonstop service from the United States to Africa for the first time and open three new routes to Eastern Europe. Philadelphia will be connected with Casablanca, Morocco and Chicago will be linked with Krakow, Prague and Budapest. It will be the first US airline to serve these cities from Chicago, the airline says.
“We see summer 2020 as an opportunity for growth in the leisure destinations our customers truly value,” says Vasu Raja, American’s senior vice-president of network strategy.
The flights will be available for purchase from 25 November.
