Transport Canada has certificated the Embraer 190-E2 and 195-E2, paving the way for delivery to Toronto-based Porter Airlines.
Porter has firm orders for 50 E195-E2s and the first example will be handed over at Embraer’s Sao Jose dos Campos plant “in the coming days”; it will become the first of the type to be operated in North America.
The carrier could ultimately take up to 100 units of the Pratt & Whitney PW1900G-powered twinjet: it holds firm orders for 50 examples, plus 50 purchase rights.
Dating from two separate deals placed in 2021 and 2022, Embraer puts the total list-price value of the orders, if all options are exercised, at $7.38 billion.
Porter plans for the E195-E2s to spearhead its westward expansion, opening routes from Toronto Pearson to Montreal, Ottawa and Vancouver.
