Israeli start-up carrier AirHaifa has taken delivery of its initial ATR 72-600s, one of a pair ordered from the airframer last year.

AirHaifa is looking to start commercial services from Haifa to destinations in the Mediterranean and Red Sea regions.

The aircraft will be powered by the Pratt & Whitney Canada PW127XT-M engine, the latest version of the turboprop.

AirHaifa will receive the second ATR 72-600 in 2025.

Chief executive Gonen Usishkin, a former head of Israeli flag-carrier El Al, says he is “beyond excited” over the regional start-up’s first aircraft delivery.

“We focus on sustainable development, passenger satisfaction, and regional connectivity,” he adds.

“By building our fleet around the ATR 72-600 aircraft, we will continue to actively contribute to our region’s economic prosperity and provide our customers with affordable, reliable, convenient and socially responsible means of transport.”

ATR says it will work closely with AirHaifa to provide support and know-how to assist commencement of operations.

AirHaifa is intending to capitalise on a catchment area in northern Israel which is closer to Haifa than the Tel Aviv Ben Gurion hub.
