Scandinavian carrier SAS has started selling tickets which automatically include the cost of biofuel purchase for its flights.
The airline, which has been offering biofuel as a travel extra, says it is aiming to make biofuel selection “even easier” for passengers.
It will enable passengers buying its ‘Go Smart’ or ‘Plus Pro’ fares to purchase them with 50% biofuel included – the maximum permitted.
These ‘SAS Bio’ tickets will be available on all of SAS’s domestic, Scandinavian and European services. The additional cost is based on average flight times, ranging from around 35min to 90min.
“We know it is important for our customers, both leisure and corporate, to actively take part in these efforts and SAS Bio will fill this demand,” says SAS sustainability head Ann-Sofie Horlin.
SAS says the quantity of biofuel purchased will replace an equivalent amount of conventional fuel in its operations, and the carrier is guaranteeing the purchase will take place within one year. It adds that it will make no profit from the transaction.
