A new 55 million ringitt ($14 million) terminal has been completed at Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Kota Bharu on Malaysia's east coast. The new terminal is capable of handling up to 1.45 million passengers annually. The terminal features three airbridges and the apron can accommodate three Boeing 737-400s and two Fokker 50s simultaneously. Wireless local area network internet services will be available throughout Brussels International Airport from this week through a programme with IT company Megabeam. The network will provide passengers with wireless devices with easy and fast access to their corporate IT networks, e-mails and the internet throughout the airport. Meanwhile, construction of a new control tower has begun which will feature the Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System. The new tower will become operational at the end of 2004. Developments at the airport come as its operating company, BIAC, reports a loss of €2.87 million for the first six months of 2002, against a €24.13 million profit a year ago. During the period, passenger numbers fell by 36% to 6.5 million compared to the first six months of 2001. Aircraft movements dropped by 20.8%.
