Aviat Aircraft is the first general aviation aircraft manufacturer to offer Forward Vision's EVS-100 system, supplying the vision enhancement as an option in its Husky line.
The system includes an infrared sensor atop the aircraft, providing a 40e_SDgr image.
"This is clearly the most significant advancement in technology since the introduction of GPS or EFIS," said Stu Horn, president of Aviat. "Government agencies like border patrol, search and rescue operations and wildfire management will realise a lot of practical applications.
"But GA pilots are going to be grateful for this kind of eye-in-the-sky technology whenever they get into marginal or worse conditions."
The EVS responds to long-wave infrared, offering night vision that had previously been available only in business aircraft. It increases pilot perception by eight times in snow, fog or total darkness.
The system is offered on new Husky models and can be retrofitted, both at a cost of $22,000.
