Customer demand for a larger, faster aircraft prompted the unveiling at AirVenture of Lancair's Evolution single-engined turboprop kitplane.
The four-seat aircraft meets FAR Part 23 handling characteristics, says Lancair, and incorporates a recovery parachute system, Amsafe Aviation airbag seat belts and a baggage compartment within its pressurised bulkhead to allow for access during flight. The Evolution has a gross weight of 1,950kg (4,300lb), an empty weight of 1,135kg, allowing for 530 litres (140USgal) of fuel and 68kg of baggage, says Lancair.
The Pratt & Whitney PT6A-135A-powered aircraft has a maximum speed of 335kt (620km/h) and a range of 1,590km (860nm).
