Oneworld alliance members American Airlines and Finnair have filed for antitrust immunity with the US Department of Transportation to allow the two carriers to extend their codeshare deals into scheduling and pricing. Oneworld alliance members have been expected to strengthen their partnerships following American Airlines' and British Airways' failure earlier this year to gain approval for their Atlantic alliance. Meanwhile, Finnair has been forced to cancel two of its weekly flights to Moscow and St Petersburg following the European Union (EU) ban on noisy Russian airliners under new noise regulations which came into force on 1 April. Russian aviation authorities have responded by banning an equal number of EU flights.
