Farnborough 2000 is the launchpad for an obstacle awareness radar system developed by Canadian manufacturer Amphitech International, which could drastically reduce the number of accidents caused by collision with terrain.

The technology employs millimetre wave radar to warn pilots of obstacles including trees, power lines and pylons that pose a danger, especially in adverse weather conditions.

Unveiling of the OASYS product follows hot on the heels of an announcement by HeliRadar Technologies that it is to develop a rotating synthetic aperture radar (ROSAR) for helicopters which aims to give commercial operators true all-weather capability.
