The Farnborough air show took place in July 2014 and as expected, a large amount of commercial aircraft orders were announced. Net orders came in at 819 during the month where 869 new orders were offset by 50 cancellations, while another six swaps occurred.
In the highlights of the month, Emirates Airline ordered 150 Boeing 777X twin-engined aircraft, including 115 for the 777-9X variant and 35 for the 777-8X. Irish lessor SMBC Aviation Capital ordered 110 Airbus A320neo aircraft as well as five A320s with the current engine option. Hong Kong Aviation Capital ordered 70 A320neo aircraft while Air Lease Corporation placed orders for 60 A321neo aircraft, ten 737 Max narrowbodies and six 777s. Carrier Qatar Airways and lessor AerCap ordered 50 777-9Xs and 50 A320neo aircraft respectively.
New orders for Airbus totalled 442 while Boeing took in 324. ATR, Sukhoi, Bombardier, Embraer and Mistubishi received 35, 15, 14, ten and six respectively.
In the narrowbody market, a total of 504 new orders occurred, with 442 A320 family aircraft, including 387 for the neo variant. A total of 60 737 Max aircraft were placed as well as two Bombardier CSeries aircraft. Widebody orders included 238 777s, including 220 for the new 777X family as well as 26 787s. The regional orders of the month included 25 ATR42s, 15 Superjet 100s, 12 Dash 8s, ten ATR72s, ten Embraer 190s and six MRJs.
Overall, the commercial aircraft order backlog ended July at 13,694, up 668 on the previous month.
