Air New Zealand (ANZ) has posted a 5.6% fall in passenger traffic in December 2009.
Total RPKs decreased 5.6% from a year ago, says the Star Alliance carrier. Short-haul RPKs were down 3.2%, while long-haul RPKs were down 7.1%.
Short-haul traffic refers to the domestic, Australian and Pacific Island markets. The Asia, North America and Europe markets are considered long-haul.
In terms of real numbers, the total number of passengers carried fell 2.6% to 1.2 million, says ANZ.
Total capacity, as measured by ASKs, fell 11%. Short-haul capacity was reduced 10.4%, and long-haul capacity fell 11.3%, adds the airline.
The overall passenger load factor grew by 4.8 percentage points as a result, says ANZ.
