US inflight entertainment company APS has struck a deal to provide the embedded version of its handheld video devices on B/E Aerospace's new economy class seats.

Under the deal, APS's new Digesystem will be offered to airlines as a certified option on B/E's Spectrum economy seats.

Acquired by Wencor in October 2004, APS is the leader in the handheld IFE market, with a rapidly growing list of customers for its Digeplayer portable units.

Unveiled

Earlier this year, the company unveiled the Digesystem - a seat-back version of the Digeplayer.

Wencor says the embedded platform "eliminates the complex and heavy equipment needed for traditional IFE systems and makes it easier to maintain and certify".

"Wencor's innovative IFE system is a nice complement to our Spectrum seating platform," says Kenneth Rusterholz, B/E's vice-president and general manager - seating products.

"It allows our customers a cost-effective and timely solution for IFE on both new and existing single-aisle aircraft.
