Cambodia regains national airline

Cambodia's government is seeking to establish a new national airline in partnership with two Indonesian companies, six years after flag carrier Royal Air Cambodge collapsed. The carrier will be 51%-owned by the government and 49%-owned by Rajawali Group and another privately owned Indonesian investment company, Ancora International. The new carrier, which has yet to be named, will operate on both domestic and international routes.

New Japanese carrier

A new Japanese airline is being established that will initially operate two Embraer 170s from the new Mt Fuji Shizuoka Airport, which opens in early 2009. The new airline is being established by Japanese trading and logistics group Suzuyo. It has placed firm orders with Embraer for two E-170s and has purchase rights for one more.

More A320s for AirAsia

Malaysian low-cost airline group AirAsia has firmed up options on 25 more Airbus A320s, lifting its firm orders to 175 and making it the biggest airline customer for the type. AirAsia says the additional aircraft will enable it to "guarantee capacity growth up to 2014". Deliveries are due to take place between January 2013 and October 2014.

Chinese carriers join alliances

China Southern Airlines joined SkyTeam in November. It was briefly the only Chinese member of a multilateral alliance until Air China and Shanghai Airlines joined the Star Alliance in December.
