Italian authorities have opened an inquiry into the Boeing 737-400 overrun at Bergamo Orio al Serio which seriously damaged the aircraft.
The ASL Airlines jet, operating in the colours of express service DHL, came to rest, on its fuselage underside, upon a road.
Images from the scene confirm the aircraft as bearing the Hungarian registration HA-FAX.

Flight Fleets Analyzer lists this airframe as a 25-year old example, which operated for Qantas before transferring to Airwork where it underwent freighter conversion.
The aircraft has been substantially damaged in the overrun, losing its CFM International CFM56 engines, its main landing-gear, and fracturing its horizontal stabiliser.
Italian investigation authority ANSV says the aircraft had been arriving after conducting flight 7332 from Paris Charles de Gaulle. The accident took place at 04:07.
ANSV adds that it has started an inquiry and arranged to send a team to the airport.
