Russian investigators have identified the UTAir ATR 72 turboprop which crashed on take-off today as a 19-year old airframe.
The Interstate Aviation Committee (MAK) says the aircraft was registered VP-BYZ and was transporting 39 passengers and four crew members.
Initial indications, it adds, are that there were 29 fatalities in the accident. The aircraft was operating flight 120 from Tyumen to Surgut.
"The number of fatalities is to be confirmed," says MAK.
UTAir states that 12 of those on board have survived and are being transported to hospital by helicopter.
It says that the aircraft performed an "emergency landing" about 1.5km (1nm) from the airport. MAK says the event occurred at 05:33 Moscow time.
MAK has opened and investigation into the accident. Its identification of the aircraft's registration gives the type as an ATR 72-200 manufactured in 1993.
