The television-viewing public will experience a spectacular ride into space aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis STS 112 during the mission's launch from the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, scheduled for 2 October. A small video camera has been mounted near the top of the external tank to provide TV viewers with a live bird's eye view towards the ground, from main engine start to when the craft reaches orbit. The camera was fitted, following the success of similar units on Atlas and Delta boosters. STS 112 is an International Space Station assembly mission carrying ITS S1, the first starboard truss segment.
