Australia plans to buy up to 110 Raytheon AIM-120C-7 AMRAAM medium-range air-to-air missiles for use on its Boeing F/A-18F Super Hornet fighters.
Outlined in a request dated 2 June, the Foreign Military Sales deal is worth $202 million and will include associated equipment, parts, training and logistical support, said the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency.
Australia has also requested 10 air vehicle-instrumented, and 16 captive air training missiles.
"Australia is one of our most important allies in the western Pacific," said the agency. "Australia's government policy places interoperability with US forces as an important goal and objective for equipment acquisition."
Australia has received 15 Super Hornets from its 24-aircraft order, with the remaining nine to be delivered this year.
