Thai aviation officials have delayed the release of a report into the 11 December, 1998, crash of a Thai Airways International Airbus A310-200, which was due to be released by the end of August. The aircraft crashed on its third go-around while attempting to land on Surat Thani's runway 22 in poor visibility, killing 106 of the 146 on board.
Prateepcha Wichai, director of the air safety division of the Thai Department of Civil Aviation, says he cannot give a reason for the delay. He declines to comment on local press reports that the findings of French co-investigators, identifying human error as a factor, were rejected by Thai officials. Thai investigators are now calling for additional control system studies.
Thai officials previously stated that a mechanical fault caused the accident. Airbus, however, says that the investigators have not informed it of any fault in the aircraft, which would be normal practice.
