After the excitement of AUVSI's Unmanned Systems North America 2011 dies down, AUVSI is planning for a busy autumn and winter, by continuing its advocacy efforts to get unmanned aircraft into the National Airspace System.
In mid-September, AUVSI will sponsor the 8,600ft2 robotics zone at Defence & Security Equipment International (DSEi), the world's largest independent biennial land, sea and air defense exhibition. DSEi will be held September 13-16 in London.
On September 21, AUVSI will take part in a "Hill Day" at the Rayburn House Office Building on Capitol Hill as part of the Unmanned Systems Caucus Tech Fair. The event brings together lawmakers and industry representatives to discuss unmanned systems and robotics.
"The support AUVSI will provide for the DSEi 2011 robotics zone will reinforce our position as a world leader in unmanned systems," said Gretchen West, executive vice president of AUVSI. "In addition, the robotics zone will help advance the unmanned systems industry by showcasing the latest technological advancements."
AUVSI is sponsoring a one-day seminar focused on unmanned systems as part of the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense exhibit in South Korea, scheduled for October 18-23.
The association will also focus on a pending rule from the Federal Aviation Administration allowing small unmanned aircraft to fly in public airspace. That rule is expected to be released for public comment by the end of the year.
"We are dedicated to promoting the safe operation of unmanned aircraft in the National Airspace System," West said. "We are hoping the rule will be a good starting point to allow that to happen."
The association's next big event is AUVSI's Unmanned Systems Program Review 2012, scheduled for February 7-9 in Washington, D.C. Speakers will review the status of a wide range of air, ground and maritime programs.
