The battery-powered quadcopter, built to be assembled in 90s, was fitted with a new propeller set and tested in the Rocky Mountains of North America. Using the new propellers, the Scout was able to demonstrate performance to listed specifications.

"The new propellers double Scout's flying altitude while maintaining its expected performance. Given the Scout's light weight and covert size, it's a significant technological accomplishment" said Chris Barter, program manager.

The high-altitude modifications were made upon the request of an unnamed customer, citing operations in Afghanistan, Iraq and Colombia. Datron is also known for its radios, which are employed by the US military, including special forces known to operate in all three locations. The quadrotor has undergone testing at the US Army's Empire Challenge exercise, where industry directly displays numerous capabilities.
