Rockwell Collins has revealed that it is to be the flight control system provider to Boeing/Insitu for the US Navy's small tactical unmanned air system (STUAS) program.
The company's Athena 111m flight control system is installed on the Boeing/Insitu Integrator, which won the two-year, $43.7 million STUAS engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase contract from the Navy in late July. Competitors included AAI with the Aerosonde Mk4.7, Raytheon with the KillerBee-4 and General Dynamics and Elbit with the Storm, a renamed version of the Elbit Hermes 90. STUAS will provide intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support for Navy and Marine Corps.
"We are pleased to be working closely with Insitu on this important program," says David Vos, Rockwell Collins senior director of UAS and Control Technology. "Rockwell Collins' role in the STUAS contract validates the reliability and performance of our Athena flight control and navigation systems."
