Unmanned Vehicle University (booth 5040) - which claims to be the first university in the world dedicated to unmanned education - is announcing at the show the addition of an online certificate course on small UAVs and firefighting. The faculty member teaching the course has two PhDs in aerial firefighting and six years' experience with UAVs and firefighting, says the Tacoma, Washington-based university's executive director Dr (Col. Ret.) Jerry LeMieux.
"Police and fire departments can now fly UAVs below 25 pounds below 400 feet," he says. Graduate courses in unmanned air, ground or sea systems engineering are offered on a quarterly basis, and an executive certificate course is available to learn UAV basics. The online courses are taught live by a faculty member using web conferencing software.Unmanned Vehicle University is the first university to offer graduate degrees (MS and Doctorate) in unmanned systems engineering.
