Colombian carrier Avianca has firmed up plans first unveiled in April to launch Bogota-Orlando flights in July.

Orlando is set to become Avianca's fifth US gateway beginning 12 July. Currently Avianca, which merged with El Salvador's Taca last year, serves Miami, Fort Lauderdale, New York JFK and Washington Dulles.

Avianca is operating the new route four times per week with 120-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.

Colombia's flag carrier will compete directly with JetBlue Airways, which has operated the Orlando-Bogota pairing since 2009, and operates five weekly flights in the market.
