Boeing has completed flight-testing of the first 767 Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) aircraft three weeks ahead of schedule, logging 130 flights and 383 flight hours. The aircraft is now undergoing an instrument refurbishment in Seattle, before it is flown to Wichita, Kansas, where flight-test equipment will be removed. The 767 will be returned to Seattle in May for mission-system installation and checks.

Flight-testing of the second aircraft will begin in June. Four 767 AWACS aircraft, designated E-767s, have been ordered by the Japanese Government. Two aircraft will be delivered in 1998, and two the following year.
