Cabin interior supplier B/E Aerospace says it has secured orders from nine airlines and leasing companies for its new main cabin lightweight seat.
The company estimates the value of the new business is more than $250 million.
B/E Aerospace says customers have ordered the new economy seats for new buy Boeing 737s and 787s and Airbus A320s. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in the latter part of 2010.
The new seats offer 15% weight savings over the lightest seats available today, says B/E. The company achieved the weight reduction through increased use of composites, an integrated lightweight comfort suspension system and a new design methodology that cuts parts by more than 25%.
The seating is designed for use in both widebody and narrowbody aircraft.
