"Workmanlike" was perhaps the best way to describe this year's Farnborough. Behind the flurry of order announcements, while Airbus and Boeing executives exchanged verbal salvos on large-aircraft subsidies, the talk was of the future of the show itself, with most exhibitors relieved that the format is to be reviewed. On the military side the show was stolen by the unveiling of full-scale mock-ups of the X-45Cand X-47Bunmanned combat air vehicles and there was speculation about a break in Eurofighter Typhoon production. The only notable newcomer to the flying display, Embraer's 190, highlighted the march of large regional jets into mainline territory, a trend reinforced by Bombardier's unveiling of plans for 100- to 130-seat aircraft
