Russia successfully tested a new anti-ballistic missile this week at Russia's military range at Sary Shagan, in neighbouring Kazakhstan. The test may have been timed to cause embarrassment to the US after President Bush announced new US anti-missile systems and the abandonment of the 1972 anti-missile defence treaty.
