Bangladesh has signed a contract for two AgustaWestland AW109s to meet its navy requirement for new multi-mission helicopters.
To be delivered next year, the 3t-class aircraft will be suitable for roles including exclusive economic zone protection, maritime security, search and rescue and surface surveillance, the European manufacturer says. The type will also be able to fly from the navy's frigate, the BNS Bangabandhu, it adds.
AgustaWestland will also deliver a package of aircrew instruction and initial operational maritime training under the deal, announced on 15 February.
