Indonesian low-cost carrier Batavia Air has signed a contract for a fleet of 10 new ATR-72-500 regional turboprops and options for 10 additional aircraft. This major contract is the first ever from an Indonesian airline for new ATR aircraft.

Batavia Air will start operating the turboprops to expand its regional operations, currently served with Boeing and Airbus jets. The ATR-72-500s will be configured with 74-seats, and will be equipped with the ATR ‘Elegance’ cabin, with LED lighting, as well as electronic flight bag (EFB) tools.

In addition, one of the aircraft will be equipped with a quick-change VIP kit, while a Medevac configuration will also be available in order to improve access to health services for remote communities. Deliveries will extend until 2010.
