The organisers of the Berlin airshow are sending out an optimistic message to the industry, based on a record attendance at ILA 2002.

The show attracted 1,067 exhibitors – the biggest presentation of the event so far.

Dr Hans Eberhard Birke, managing director of the German aerospace industry's association (BDLI), says at Farnborough that despite production cutbacks, there is cause for a positive outlook.

The number of trade visitors was particularly impressive, say the organisers, rising from 84,000 to 100,000.
