Boeing is claiming to have set a new world distance record after a 777-200LR landed at London Heathrow after covering a non-stop distance of 11,664nm (21,601km).

777record

The aircraft touched down at 13:13 after an east-bound flight from Hong Kong having flown for 22 hours and 42 minutes.

Boeing set the previous distance record for an aircraft of the same size and class after a 747-400 flew 9,200nm non-stop between London and Sydney in 1989.

The 777-200LR also exceeded the distance traveled by a 777-200ER, which flew from Seattle to Kuala Lumpur in 1997 covering 10,823nm. This record will continue to stand because the 777-200ER was classified in a lighter weight category.
