Boeing has completed site selection for its South Carolina 787 interior parts fabrication facility.
The facility will be located roughly 16km (10 miles) from the company's new final assembly and delivery site in North Charleston that opens in July 2011.
"The selected location for our new interiors facility will provide us with the continued flexibility we need to leverage our production capability and meet the needs of our 787 customers," says Ray Conner, VP supply chain management and operations for Boeing Commercial Airplanes.
The company plans to purchase land from Stone Mountain Industrial Park, while BRPH will design the facility and Pattillio Construction will provide construction services.
The Interiors Responsibility Centre South Carolina, which was announced in May, will manufacture 787 interior parts including stowbins, closets, partitions, class dividers, floor-mounted stowbins used by flight attendants, overhead flight-crew rests, overhead flight attendant crew rests, video-control stations and attendant modules.
Construction is slated to begin in the fourth quarter of 2010, and once open is expected to create 150 new jobs.
