Boeing is linking with three UK universities - Sheffield, Cambridge and Cranfield - for research in structures, information technology and aerodynamics, respectively. The company funds studies at several US and overseas universities, but chairman Phil Condit says the relationship has traditionally been "passive". Boeing is spending "millions" of dollars on the initiative, its first with UK universities, but because students will carry out work that would otherwise be done by Boeing engineers, "it's way more efficient", he says.
