Australia has granted Boeing a five year, A$901 million ($816 million) extension for sustainment of the country’s 737-700 based E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning & control (AEW&C) aircraft.
The deal extends an agreement originally signed in 2010, says Boeing.
“Under the A$901 million contract extension, (Boeing Defence Australia) will continue to provide program management, supply-chain management, engineering, and maintenance services until at least 2019, with the potential for annual contract extensions based on performance and continuous improvement. On-aircraft deeper maintenance and training services will continue to at least 2016 when (the defence department) intends to market-test these services.”
Australian defence minister David Johnson welcomed the move, as it will support work for 290 civilian workers in Australia involved with Wedgetail support.
Australia operates six Wedgetail aircraft.
