UK helicopter operator Bond Air Services expects its full-motion Eurocopter EC135 flight training device (FTD) to enter service next month. The level 3 device has been built by CueSim, a subsidiary of research and technology organisation Quinetiq. Bond will use the device for its own and third-party training, and says by early last month 60% of capacity on initial instrument-rating courses in the first six months had been booked
The FTD, including 150° x 60° partial-dome visual system, is mounted on a six-axis electric motion base and features four-axis electric feel for the dual controls. The device includes full representations of the EC135's glass-cockpit displays, autopilot and navigation systems, says CueSim.
