British Airways has announced the suspension of its flights from London Gatwick airport to Manchester airport.
The domestic link will be withdrawn on 31 March 2013, though BA will continue to operate up to 11 daily flights between Manchester and London Heathrow airport.
At present, BA's Gatwick-Manchester service is operated up to three times per day.
"British Airways retains a strong presence in Manchester, where it currently employs over 400 staff at the airport, at the airline's call centre and BA CityFlyer head office in Didsbury," the carrier says in a statement.
"In addition to the Heathrow flights, there are two flights a day to Billund and two to Gothenberg that fly in British Airways colours from Manchester, operated by franchise partner SunAir."
In August, rival UK carrier Virgin Atlantic announced that it will enter the domestic market with flights from Heathrow to Manchester in spring 2013.
