Bob Hope airport in Burbank, California plans to request the US FAA ban night flights at the airport.

Located about 30 miles north of Los Angeles International airport, Bob Hope offers mostly flights along the west coast, an airport spokesman says, adding a majority of airlines abide the secondary airport’s voluntary curfew of no flights after 22:00 or before 7:00.

Only one carrier has a scheduled arrival after evening curfew, and three carriers have scheduled departures before the morning cap.

An airport spokesman says the ban is primarily aimed at cargo carriers and general aviation aircraft.

“This is not an airline situation, it is other aircraft,” he says.

The airport has completed a mandatory study for the proposed ban and will begin collecting public comments on 31 March.

Bob Hope will likely submit its request to FAA in mid June, and if approved, the curfew will likely take affect next year, the spokesman says.

If the night ban is made mandatory, the airport will allow for a one-hour grace period for delayed arrivals, and have other exceptions such as in-flight emergencies.
