Good Week

FRENCH SMEs. Small suppliers based near Toulouse were due for some good news, after the months of worry they have faced over the potential impact of Airbus's problems on their own businesses. Aerospace Valley, south-west France's aerospace technology cluster, has given its backing to eight new research projects with a total value of €40 million ($53 million). All eight of the projects involve small- and medium-sized enterprises, and three of them will be SME-led.

SAFRAN. Hot on the heels of a profit warning, management in-fighting and resignations at the French manufacturer, outgoing chief executive Jean-Paul Béchat is facing a libel case from the former finance boss of Sagem Defense Sécurité. The action relates to a Safran statement warning of potential lost profits and announcing an independent fraud investigation in which it referred to "unexplained accounting entries" at the division, whose 2006 earnings are likely to be affected.
