FORTESCUE INAUGURAL

Australian regional carriers Skywest and Virgin Blue made an inaugural flight on 18 May of a Boeing 737-700 for mining firm Fortescue Metals. The 142-seat aircraft flew Fortescue staff from Perth, Western Australia to the Cloudbreak iron ore mine, replacing the smaller Fokker 100. The 737 will be replaced in August by a 162-seat Airbus A320 to provide a regular shuttle between the two sites.
