The Honda Aircraft HA-420 HondaJet Elite has received type certification from the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB), clearing the way for light twin to operate in Japan.

Honda Aircraft says the certification shows that the aircraft meets the “exacting standards set by the organisation including those for strength, performance, safety, function, and reliability.”

The certification follows ANA Business Jet’s October launch of a service using the type for onward connections from Chicago O’Hare and Los Angeles International Airports.

Introduced in May, the Elite revamp saw the HA-420 receive an auxiliary fuel tank to increase range by 230nm (426km) to 1,440nm, a 45kg (100lb) rise in maximum take-off weight to 4,860kg and a new interior adding a fifth passenger seat.

Flight Fleets Analyzer shows that there are 97 HA-420s in service, with three in storage. There are 65 firm orders for the type.

Of in-service examples, 74 are in the USA. The type is also operated in the United Kingdom, Mexico, Germany, Argentina, and several other countries.
