B/E AEROSPACE The cabin interior supplier has secured more than $250 million in orders from nine airlines and leasing companies for its new lightweight economy cabin seat. B/E says the seats, which have been ordered for new-buy Boeing 737s and 787s and Airbus A320s for delivery from late 2010, are 15% lighter than the lightest seats now available thanks to composite materials, an integrated suspension system and a design with 25% fewer parts.

NOISY JETS Australia hopes to give people living near major airports a quieter life by banning older and noisy aircraft from 1 September. Under the new law, the Boeing 727, McDonnell Douglas DC-8 and Antonov An-124 (pictured) will be disallowed. Classified as "marginally noise-compliant", they are mostly used as freighters and are a "source of concern for residents around Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth airports", says the transport ministry.
