Business travellers are prepared to spend more next year, a positive sign for airline revenues, according to widely watched surveys. The American Express travel unit sees US shorter-haul economy fares rising by 5-8% and long haul by as much as 6%, says the firm’s Matthew Davis.

In its report, the National Business Travel Association (NBTA) found that half of corporate travel departments plan to make more trips and to spend as much as 10% more on each trip.

Corporate travellers are prepared for air fare increases of about 6%, says NBTA. “Business is back in the air and on the road in numbers not seen since the beginning of the decade; travel in general is back to 2000 levels,” explains the association.
