Responding to demand from business aircraft users for the latest in-flight cabin systems, British Telecom and EMS Technologies have joined forces to provide airborne "two way high speed data" transmission.

The new system will enable passengers to transmit data and voice messages at 64 kilobits/s - "seven times" the current speed, using Inmarsat's series three satellites. "First installations are scheduled to begin late next year," says EMS.

The Canadian company has also linked with Honeywell to offer direct broadcast services to business aircraft. EMS will provide its new DBA-1150 antenna and Honeywell its "One View" (TV, voice and data) satellite direct broadcast system. The first examples will be displayed in a Gulfstream GIII, GIV and Bombardier Challenger 604 at the NBAA convention, which begins on 14 October.
