Canadian company Star Navigation Systems (Hall 4, B15-02)) is making its first appearance at Farnborough with its new in-flight safety monitoring system (ISMS).

The ISMS is billed as the first product of its kind providing real-time flight analysis from cockpit to ground for the duration of a flight. Information from more than 256 parameters including air pressure, altitude and speed are continually relayed to a ground station automatically. If any of the tolerance levels are exceeded, ground staff are notified to allow a quick response.

Problem

"The sooner a problem is detected the sooner it can be resolved," says Dale Sparks, chief information officer. "The early relay of information helps to prevent operational issues from becoming a catalyst for further incidents."

As well as enhancing safety, the ISMS has an important impact of fleet management. The early detection of problems allows ground staff to acquire extra parts before the aircraft lands, meaning that downtime is reduced and money is saved.

ISMS has just been certified by Transport Canada and Sparks is looking forward to a busy show. "We have shown ISMS at Dubai and Singapore and we had a lot of interest," he says. "Now that we have certification we are hoping to convert this interest into orders for ISMS during Farnborough."
