Japanese synthetic fibre maker Toray Industries has secured a new contract with Boeing covering the supply of carbonfibre materials for the US aircraft manufacturer’s 787 twinjet. Toray will provide carbonfibre cloth prepreg for use in 787 fuselages until 2021. It says that together with a $3 billion contract in 2004 for the supply of carbonfibre reinforced plastic for use in primary structural elements of the aircraft, its 787-related deals with Boeing are now valued at $6 billion over the next 16 years.
