FedEx, Polar Air Cargo and UPS have all amended their respective US DoT applications for fifth freedom rights on a single weekly Hong Kong-Seoul frequency to include two more frequencies on the same route made available by Kalitta Air.

The three cargo operators last month applied for the weekly Hong Kong-Seoul frequency relinquished by Northwest Airlines on 17 May.

However, the carriers are each now vying to add two additional Hong Kong-Seoul fifth freedom all-cargo frequencies that were relinquished by Kalitta Air on 3 June.

FedEx says in its latest DoT filing that it intends to operate the three weekly frequencies on a year-round basis using Airbus A310 and Boeing MD-11 freighters.

Operate

In its application, Polar says it would operate the routes with Boeing 747 freighters, also on a year-round basis.

It says it would operate the two frequencies relinquished by Kalitta on a New York-Anchorage, Alaska-Seoul-Hong Kong routing.

UPS plans to operate the three frequencies on a Louisville, Kentucky-Anchorage-Hong Kong-Seoul routing, using Boeing 747 freighters and converting to MD-11s in November.
