Australia's Customs Service and the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) have signed a contract for the construction and supply of neutron-scanning technology.
The technology can detect explosives, drugs and other prohibited items in air cargo containers and can scan a container in less than 2min. A prototype system has already been tested by Customs and will be tested at Brisbane airport over an 18-month period from 2005.
