German outsize cargo airship manufacturer CargoLifter has chosen BAE Systems to supply avionics for its CL160 "sky crane". The company says further involvement with BAE is possible. The demands on the avionics suite differ from those of a typical fixed wing aircraft, principally due to the lack of a rigid structure and the sheer size of the machine, which is 260m (858ft) long, says CargoLifter.
