Cathay Pacific says the delivery of its first Airbus A350-900 will be pushed back to late April, because of a “cabin product issue”.
The airline made the disclosure in its monthly magazine CX World, saying the original delivery was slated for February.
“The Cathay team is working closely with Airbus and the product supplier to minimise the risk of any further delays,” it adds.
Cathay did not disclose more details about the cabin product issue, but media reports have pointed to business class seat supplier Zodiac as having fallen behind schedule.
Cathay’s -900s will have 280 seats: 38 in business class, 28 in premium economy and 214 in economy. The airline had earlier said that the jets will feature “the next generation” of business and economy seats, as well as inflight entertainment products. Cathay is also working with Porsche Design Group on the design of its A350 cabins.
The Hong Kong flag carrier will add 22 Airbus A350-900s to its fleet over the next two years, followed by 26 A350-1000s from 2018 through to 2020.
